We hiked 6 miles in the heat of summer to get to this most iconic mining ruin near Marble, CO (home of the marble used in iconic buildings in Washington DC and San Francisco). In 1892, this mill used the water from the amazingly clear and pristine Crystal River to generate power for air compressors in the mine. In the painting I wanted to recreate my feeling or arriving on foot at a shady oasis with pure water.

I varnished this watercolor and framed it without glass. It was exhibited at the Colorado Historic Preservation Conference.
